MIB: International Review

๐Ÿฟ

MIB: International takes everything that was fun, interesting, and endearing from the original, and does not hesitate to throw it out the window.

The Upside:

Fans of the franchise will enjoy the familiar score, some of the gadgets, and the handful of Easter eggs thrown in (a painting of J and K for instance). Fans of Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson will probably also enjoy seeing them team up again after Thor: Ragnarok

The Downside:

The sad truth, MIB: Int’l doesn’t have a lot going for it. The story unnecessarily jumps to irrelevant side plots that are never fully resolved, all to pass time for a cliched and fully expected final reveal. Thompson and Hemsworth lack a lot of the chemistry they’ve had in the past, mostly because their characters are very one dimensional and are given no real reason for the audience to care about them. Hemsworth’s H in particular is shown as arrogant and reckless the entire film, without ever getting a moment of redemption. Character design of the Aliens is also very odd and seems dated, as do the punchlines of the comedic relief.

The Verdict:

MIB: International ends up being a long, winding, and fairly boring path to nowhere. Uninteresting Characters, questionable logic, and an atrocious first act keep it from ever taking off.

3/10

High Point: Fun Easter eggs and references to the better movies in the franchise

Low Point: Making Chris Hemsworth unlikeable
