The Dead Don’t Die is a perfectly delivered deadpan dark comedy that fully utilized its A-List talent in a setting reminiscent to classic 60’s horror.
The Upside:
TDDD is filled to the brim with hilarious dry humor, 4th wall breaking, and wacky characters. Bill Murray and Adam Driver play off of each other in a way that reminded me of a lot of classic comedians like Abbott and Costello, with a darker and more droll delivery. The the running gags throughout the film are laugh out loud funny, and Adam Driver particularly shines in the oddity of it all, which is especially impressive next to Bill Murray. The supporting cast also carries its comedic weight with interestingly odd and very fun characters. TDDD also succeeds at not only being an homage to classic zombie films, but add’s its own spin on familiar tropes, which ultimately make it feel fresh and original.
The Downside:
The deadpan humor and style of TDDD may be an acquired taste to some. There are also a few little jabs at some of the casts’ more well known work (particularly a Star Wars gag) that come off as a little out of place and cheesy.
The Verdict:
The Dead Don’t Die is fun, hilarious, and truly entertaining. The extremely talented cast, Fun characters, and overall style make it fantastic, and one of 2019s best films.
