Ready or Not Review

Ready or Not delivers great suspense and horror, while expertly mixing in dark humor into what ends up being one of the best films of 2019.

Synopsis:

After marrying into the well off family of a board game empire, Grace (the bride) finds herself the prey of her new in-laws in a ritualistic game of hide and seek. Grace attempts to stay alive until dawn, while her family must kill her, or face disaster.

The Upside:

When it comes to dark and macabre humor, Ready or Not hits all the right notes. Its balance between scares and laughs is perfectly executed, and has quite of few memorable moments scattered throughout. Also, Its gothic atmosphere and setting paired with the mythology of the Le Domas family legacy make for a mysterious and intriguing concept to build the story into (and build a franchise out of *wink wink*). Samara weaving is also incredible, the whole cast is for that matter, each character bringing something a bit unique into the fold. Finally, the ending will leave audiences incredibly shocked and satisfied, which is what everyone aims for when at the movies.

The Downside:

Although the mythology around the concept is fresh, the concept of “last girl in a house with people trying to kill her” definitely is not. That being said, it does it as good as the rest, if not better.”

The Verdict: A+

Ready or Not’s great blend of humor and genuine horror, intriguing mythos, fantastic cast of characters, and overall execution make it a must see for horror fans and movie goers, as well as my personal favorite movie of 2019 thus far.
